STEMA Kenya works in Migori County and across East Africa, supporting orphaned and vulnerable children affected by poverty and HIV/AIDS. We provide education, food aid, hygiene kits, and mentorship to empower communities and break the cycle of poverty
Migori County faces some of Kenya’s toughest challenges. Nearly half of the population lives below the poverty line, and it has one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS in the country. This has led to a large number of orphaned and vulnerable children—many of whom struggle to access basic needs like food, healthcare, and education.
In fact, in the Nyanza region where Migori is located, about one in five children under 15 has lost one or both parents, often due to HIV/AIDS. This heartbreaking reality leaves many children at risk of dropping out of school, child labor, or early exploitation.
We believe every child deserves a chance to thrive. That’s why we work closely with local leaders, schools, and health centers to identify children who need us most — especially orphans and vulnerable children affected by poverty and illness.
Before we offer support, we carefully assess each child’s living situation, health, and schooling status to ensure we focus on those who face the greatest challenges.
Our support goes beyond just providing school fees. We offer:
Nutritious food and emergency relief
School uniforms, books, and supplies
Hygiene kits and sanitary products, especially for girls
Mentorship and psychosocial support
Health education and community awareness programs
By addressing these needs, we help children stay in school, build confidence, and break free from the cycle of poverty.
Government efforts to support vulnerable children in Migori exist but often fall short due to the sheer number of children needing help. Many families struggle to pay for school fees or even provide basic necessities. That’s where STEMA Kenya steps in — bridging the gap and bringing hope to children who might otherwise be left behind.
While our main focus is Migori County, we also extend our support to children and families in neighboring countries such as South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and Tanzania — helping vulnerable communities across East Africa.
At STEMA Kenya, we believe that with the right support, every child can build a brighter future. Join us in making that happen.
